Time lapse of the Emerald City.
Andrew Zimmern tours Seattle and discusses how Seattle is a city that obsesses over quality food.
Light show in Seattle.
The train ride from Seattle to Portland on the Amtrak Cascades Talgo train goes pretty fast between these two major cities, so I would certainly recommend this form of travel as Interstate-5 is a mess during rush hour. There is a train to Vancouver as well, but isn’t quite as fast. Portland to Seattle by train is just over 3 hours, which is the same if you were to drive assuming there’s absolutely no traffic, and more like 5 hours by car during rush-hour or on a Friday or Sunday evening.
In defense of Seattle, not even chains are enough. West coast snow is wet, slushy and thus very different from Midwest or East Coast snow.
Posted today from this snowstorm, and already has 25,000 views.
Driving through downtown Seattle in heavy snowfall.
Seattle traffic in a snowstorm recorded from the city’s speedy subway line from downtown to the airport. At 4:06 the cars are stopped on the downhill slope. Seattle needs more rail ASAP. Rail is greener, safer, faster, more reliable and cheaper in the long-run. What’s more, it makes cities more livable and when it snows or floors, the trains keep running as traffic stops.
Bring more rail to Seattle!
Another example, with over 3 millions views, as to why you do not drive in Seattle when it snows. I have seen my friends all the way in Sweden post this video. Seattle is notorious for drivers forgetting their snow chains at home.
An example of why you DO NOT drive in downtown Seattle in the snow, even with proper gear - because other’s aren’t ready for the snow.
This year we had one of the world’s most powerful football teams, Manchester United, visit Seattle and play the Seattle Sounders. It turned out awful with a 7-0 loss against arguably England’s most powerful club, but ManU later defeated one of their own league’s team, Arsenal or Fulham or something like 5-0… so bad scores such as that happen to even the best teams when their opponent is almost god-like.
I can’t wait to share more news about the Seattle Sounders. I love football! I got a Bayern München football shirt today. It’s beautiful!
Second part of the Pacific Northwest Episode by Anthony Bourdain.
Anthony Bourdain does an episode here in the Pacific Northwest. It begins in Portland, but he moves on to Seattle. This you must watch!
Oh winter, how you entertain us. A bonus to the occasional Seattle snowy day is watching numerous inept drivers try to navigate up and down the icy streets. In anticipation of the snowy weather just around the corner, here’s a word to the wise: skip the bus on the Hill. Jump to 2:55 for the full effect.
Too true. Snowy winters don’t come often enough to encourage people to buy snow tires, but that doesn’t explain why they can’t carry chains. Oh Seattle, how I adore thee.
